This week I've learned a lot about how the rest of the participants approach their teaching, the methods and strategies they find more efficient, things they are still struggling with, new things they have tried or are aiming to try. As I mentioned in my previous post, I find very valuable the demonstrations and the student writing group analysis. I'm always curious to hear what other teacher / instructors are working on to implement writing instruction. In some cases, I've got new ideas (using zines and memes); other times I've been reminded of methods I used in the past but for no reason no longer use and may want to bring back to the classroom (double-entry journals, storyboards). The inquiry map project too is being very useful as it's giving me the opportunity to explore a subject (how to teach writing focused on controversial topics) that I've been interested in for a while and would like to be more knowledgeable about so I can teach it effectively.
Overall, it's been a great first week.
P.S. Special mention goes to the morning and afternoon snacks. Thanks for making it part of the program, Scott and Karla :-)
